Cone Pops?

As an area governor for Toastmasters, my husband was in charge of a speech contest yesterday which involved gathering judges, finding contestants, miscellaneous Toastmastery stuff, and ensuring there was food and beverage since the doors opened at 5:30 PM.  I only helped with the food stuff, and when events like this arise, I like to try something new.

I made cone pops!

Not sure if they're called cone pops, but they're cake pops in an ice cream cone.

Very small ice cream cones...

I made up a standard batch of cake pop base and marshmallow fondant.  Assembly was a little tricky with shaping the fondant especially since this was the first time I'd ever worked with it.  It wasn't as bad as I'd been told, and it tasted fine to me - it was just sweet dough.  I think I made roughly 30 of them and had some fondant leftover.

They went over well with the crowd although people were very confused.  My husband reported that he saw a bunch of adult professionals turn into 5 year old kids after seeing them.  Honestly, who wouldn't smile at such a cute little thing?  Some people thought they were so cute that they didn't eat one and instead took it back to show their kids.  So yay!  The hard work paid off.

In truth, I saw a lot of room for improvement, but I'm assuming if I make these again, they'll turn out prettier.

Thankfully, the rest of the food was easier to make.  We made up hummus with celery sticks and crostini, curried celery soup, sliced apples with caramel sauce, and cucumber sandwiches with either garden vegetable cream cheese or jalapeno cheddar cream cheese.  And just to cover our bases, we threw out some bags of chips and M&Ms.

Not garden-related but ah well...  Gardeners gotta eat, right?

  1. Those are so cute, I love sweets wish I could have tasted one. Fondant is also used to feed honey bees.

    1. I'd offer to send you some, but I don't think they'd be very tasty by the time they got there! However, they really were quite easy to make. Molding the fondant was the only tedious part but not all that terrible.

    1. Thanks! I don't think I'm all that creative. I just put 2 and 2 together because I knew about cake pops, ice cream cone cupcakes, and marshmallow fondant. I did a search and found people making these but using melting chocolate instead of fondant. The melting chocolate looks pretty awesome, but I'm glad I did it with fondant as far as texture goes.
