Sunflowers in Bud

A couple months ago, I dug up the other section of the hell strip, relocated a tansy there, and planted some sunflower seeds.  All the plants have dealt surprisingly well with the drought and heat, and the sunflowers are getting ready to open!

I forget the variety, but I really think sunflower buds are gorgeous.  They remind me of artichokes which shouldn't be too surprising since they're in the same family.  I think they look gorgeous in floral arrangements without petals because they have such an interesting texture and arrangement.  Take a look!

Shockingly, I managed to take this picture on the street without props.  My neighbor's house across the street was in shade, and this sunflower was in sun!
