We bought it directly at the nursery when we made a special request seeing as we were newly married and in the area. This is spineless cactus with cool, fun flesh. It kinda looks like a ghost from
It has a few problem spots that I suspect will correct themselves with the fresh potting soil. Compost and correct drainage cures all.
To participate in Cactus Monday, go to Teri's Painted Daisies.
Hope your cactus will grow well, adapting to the new potting soil and care.

What an interesting cactus. That one would be fun to animate!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your first cactus! I speak from first-hand experience here, cacti thrive on neglect, don't overwater it.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun you will have watching this grow happy and healthy.
HCM!
Cool Cactus! Happy CM!

it looks like it's been grafted. Very cool!!
ReplyDeleteHCM :)
Wow it looks like a wrestler!
ReplyDeleteA sombrero would look nice on him too!
HCM!
He looks very friendly with both arms up. Possibly he was frightened when a fairy came and stole all his spines. I wonder what the fairy is doing with all those spines?? He will recover from the fright no doubt. HCM.
ReplyDeletebangchik - I hope that's all it takes. It'd be nice to not have to use fungicide, but I might do it anyway.
ReplyDeleteDebra Kay - Thanks!
Teri C - Actually, this isn't my first cactus, and thanks to the godawful heat this summer, I haven't been able to overwater anything! Ok, so not really thanks... Insufferable weather... Well, the heat combined with the potting soil and terracotta pots that I use haven't allowed me to overwater the cactus. I like a little bit of insurance when it comes to water. The desert/low-water plants go in terracotta, and the higher water plants go in plastic or glazed pottery. Then the potting soils are mixed according to the plant's needs. RAMBLING!
Cathy - Same to you! HCM!
studio lolo - It does look like it's been grafted in the pic, right? The pot is actually a little too short so part of the base of the cactus is exposed along with a few roots, and the branching is pretty pronounced. Cactus is weird. Funny thing is that I bought a grafted cactus the same day I bought this one. I'll post it next week.
marianne - It's always funny how cactus are like clouds to people. Everyone sees something different. Someone told me that he saw an Easter Island type of face.
Lisa - Hopefully the fairy stayed in TN and didn't come with me to TX and hide them in the yard.
That is a cool looking cactus. It will be interesting to see what it looks like as it grows. I love that random bumpy surface. Happy Cactus Monday!
ReplyDeleteHe does look somewhat like a ghostly cactus. I like cactus with no prickly parts - maybe that's the kind I should get. HCM!
ReplyDeleteAR~~ A very cool cactus indeed. It looks like it will thrive in its new home.
