Isn't it fun how diverse flowers are?
Take the soft buttery yellow of Yellow Lady Banks Rose (Rosa banksiae 'Lutea'):
Or the funny fuzzy shape of Kangaroo Paws (Anigozanthos flavidus):
What about the dainty cups of Oxalis 'Terra Cotta':
And the sweeping horns of Spanish Iris (Iris xiphium):
The tiny creamy blooms of Little Nipple Cactus (Mammillaria heyderi var heyderi):
Or smoochy-mouth buds of Euphorbia viguieri var viguieri:
Fun times in the garden!
Though I don't really like Spanish Iris. It made it into the post because it photographs well.
Gorgeous! Love the Oxalis. It always reminds me of my Grandmother since she had this growing all over her garden:)
ReplyDeleteAwww, that's such a sweet thing! I have wild oxalis growing everywhere too.
DeleteI love the oxalis as well!!! So sweet!
DeleteThanks, Julie! The oxalis seems to be a hit!
DeleteBeautiful! I love those yellow roses; it's a shade of roses I want to add this year to my garden.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Lady Banks is somewhat disappointing because they don't have a scent and only bloom once a year, but it does put on quite the show!
DeleteLordy, gracious. Your Lady Banks rose is to die for. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAwww, thank you! I hate photographing yellow, and I didn't particularly like the shots I got. However, your comment makes me feel better. :)
DeleteThat's funny. My husband always tells me that when he was in art school he had an instructor who would say, "Yellow doesn't sell." I don't know if that's true or not.
DeleteWhat an odd thing to say! I love yellow, but it's tricky photographing yellow flowers - I have a hard time showing dimension. Maybe that's why?
DeleteI've never seen the terra cotta...that's stunning...where'd you get it?
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I got it at Natural Gardener in the 4" pot perennial section. Kinda spendy but the color is magnificent!
DeleteMy neighbor grows yellow Lady Banks Rose, but I've never been able to photograph it well. Yours looks beautiful in its buttery softness. I also love your Terra Cotta Oxalis :)
ReplyDeleteIt's really, really hard to photograph! Most yellow flowers are just... GAH!
DeleteI love the Kangaroo Paws- great shots!!!
ReplyDeleteI think you might be the only one! Kangaroo Paws ARE AWFUL to photograph because it doesn't look to be in focus even though I can assure everyone that it is. Blah. Anyway, I really like that variety because of how pink it is. The blooms and the fuzz are a beautiful strawberry color. So glad you like it, too!
DeleteAll your shots are great! I want a Lady Banks, but haven't added it yet. It really does just bloom once a year...blah! I'm going to keep an eye on a neighbor's that is huge and see if I'll be happy with her even after the blooms. I a spot picked out, but I need to be sure I'll like her all year round. Love your Kanagroo Paws, my friend went to Australia recently and brought us back seeds. Yes, I know I can pick them up at a local nursery (and almost did yesterday), but I'm going to see what I can do with the seeds first. I think they're really odd and that that makes them darling!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Lady Banks definitely has its drawbacks, and perhaps I highlighted too many of them. It only blooms once a year, but the blooms last a good long time as far as roses go. The leaves are pretty and generally blemish-free. There's very little maintenance. And the largest rose in the world is a Lady Banks rose in Tombstone, AZ and covers more than 8,000 sqft.
DeleteI think it's very cool that you're trying Kangaroo Paws from Australian seed!!
