One Cereus Bloom

About 5 days ago, I noticed a bloom forming on one of my cacti.  I'm not sure what kind of cactus it is, but I think it's a Cereus sp.  So I was on high alert to capture the bloom when it opened...

I noticed yesterday afternoon that it was looking particularly full.

I checked on it after the sun set and again at 11 pm or so.  This morning I saw it was at least partially open, so I thought, "Oh hey, maybe it's a cactus that blooms during the day.  I better start taking pictures now."

The bees were going absolutely bananas over the bloom as was I.

But it seems it was a night blooming cactus after all.  About an hour it was closed.

I hope the bees got their fill, and I'm very grateful to have started photographing as soon as I saw it this morning.  Thank goodness I wake up early!  Phew!

  2. Beautiful! You have to get over to East Austin Succulents, it's like a treasure hunt and the owner is really personable.

  5. The bees wasted no time to do their job. With only one flower too! I like the night bloomers, usually such a variety of different pollinators.
