Pitcher on Nepenthes alata

It's a nice sunny day outside, and it occurred to me that I should really water the plants in the garage.  I've been VERY impressed with how well the carnivorous plants are taking to the relative drought in the garage, and I suspect they're surviving partially because we hang the clothes in the garage to dry which adds a bit of humidity.  While I was watering I discovered that my Nepenthes alata had formed some very young pitchers.  SOOOOO CUTE!

And just for comparison here's a mature pitcher with full coloring:

I suspect one of the nepenthes has red blotch because it shows a lot of the symptoms.  It doesn't seem to be as affected by it as the amaryllis because it grows so quickly and has very waxy leaves.  I might take as many cuttings as possible and then destroy the plant to prevent it from spreading further which will be quite painful since it's so large and otherwise healthy.

  1. I'm green with envy!! Your pitcher looks incredible...if only I'd had the same common sense to put mine in the garage. I'm still holding out that mine might come back, but am prepared for the worst. Yours are lovely and evidently enjoying the garage.

  2. Thanks for offering to share. I had wanted to drive up to go to that place you posted about, but now realize that volleyball will hog up every Saturday and Sunday afternoon this month...grrr! That's good to know that they're easy. I had read up on them a while back and then sounded really testy, so I didn't try.
