The Pineapple Plant Experiment WORKED!

So I've been away from the house for about a month, and during that month, a lot of exciting things apparently happened. One exciting thing is that my pineapple plants finally took off and grew!! The experiment worked!

I see these plants going for some pretty big bucks at nurseries, and I've got 4 for practically free.

  1. You ended up with a great looking plant from starting with a discaded top. Isn't it great to grow something new? Next thing you know, you'll end up selling pineapples from a stand in front of your house. I bet they never specified 'no selling pineapples' in your homeowners agreement.

  2. It's actually very funny that I managed to do it. The plants did absolutely nothing for months it seems, but they were still green so I didn't toss them. They just seemed to take off, so I guess they must have been plugging a lot of energy into growing roots.

And oh lord, when we were looking at houses, we specifically didn't want an HOA because they're too much of a nightmare. If it's my land and my house, I want to do with it what I want, and I am willing to respect the rights of others to do the same. There are enough city ordinances in place that there's no reason to throw an HOA on top of it. Plus that episode on X-Files...

  3. What an experiment! I have been eating pineapple and have never thought how the plant is propagated. Next time when I see a pineapple top, I would try to plant one :-) I hope your plant would have pineapple fruit soon. Have a great day!

  4. Stephanie - I think you totally should. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be, but I sorta think I might have lucked out cos I had no idea how much to water it. It got watered when I watered my vegetable garden. Meh!
