Masochism

Maybe it will freeze in Fredericksburg or something, but I have my doubts about it freezing here.  Despite my doubts, I'm glad I got all my plants into the garage yesterday and only had a few small ones still out.  The garage looks crazy and very, very green right now.  I haven't counted how many plants there are, but maybe 100?  Not sure.  It's a lot.  And some are kinda big like the Euphorbia ammak which is maybe 7' tall from bottom of the pot to the top of the plant.  I really need to take pictures of everything.

There was a joint meeting of the Cactus and Succulent Society and The Garden Club of Austin tonight, and the Cactus and Succulent Society brought in plants for the raffle.  My husband and I got a San Pedro cutting, a large cactus cutting, and an agave.  We must be masochists.

I also had my second physical therapy session, and it hasn't been very challenging.  I suspect I've lived with this injury so long that I've adapted over the years.  My therapist knows how severe my injury is - my ligament is completely gone and I can rotate my ankle to a disgusting/revolting degree.  It even grosses me out.  I'm hoping the therapy will help, and I'm sure the sessions will become more and more challenging.  In the meantime, I guess I'll have to consider increasing my boot collection since boots are one of the few stylish things I can wear on my feet.

Here's a pair of my recently acquired Corral boots:

They're pink!  And they have skulls!  Love!

  1. Well, if ya gotta wear boots every day.... what better choice could you make. Fortunately, you don't live in Florida where they would think you a bit odd! Good luck with the therapy. They can do wonders.

  2. It is good you are sticking with the therapy - may not seem to help but it is keeping you mobile.

Boots are very in right now. Besides, its Texas, we can get away with boots anyday.

  3. Those boots are freakin awesome, and I hope the therapy gets better... they're supposed to make you beg for mercy before they make it easier! One of my favorite bromeliads is spikier than any agave but I still grow it for some reason, though my hands protest pretty severely after I get too close to the pointed hooks...

  4. Boots are good all over. Being a former eastern cowboy, riding my horses western style rather than English which is way more common here, I love your snazzy boots. As per the plants, 100 or so? Wow. I grip every time I have to move a couple of big pots in for winter. And rightly so this year, cracked a rib doing it. Good you are taking care of your injury. Getting around is so important.LOL.

  5. webb - I am a bit odd. :-P

Tufa Girl - I think the problem is that I am already very mobile, considering everything else, but the therapist is a bit tentative to make me do more rigorous activities because she knows how bad it is. When I was telling her about my pain, which is barely there, I could tell she was wondering why I was there. When she saw the MRI, she was a bit shocked, and the atmosphere changed. The pain is minimal, but I think that's a big part of the problem. I should be experiencing a good amount of pain.

Rainforest Gardener - Thanks! Have you seen the Agave 'Jaws'? That thing is SCARY!

gardenwalkgardentalk - I was a bit of a freak in my crowd for riding Western instead of English as well. My little palomino quarter horse was no chestnut thoroughbred. And it's funny how we take getting around for granted until it's too damn hard/painful to do it. However, I've learned to hop up steps on one foot and drive an automatic with my left foot on the pedals and my right leg on my lap. Here's hoping the other ankle doesn't blow out cos then I'd be in serious trouble! lol!

  6. Sounds like you got some great succulents! I hope the therapy helps but a ligament does not just grow back on it's own. It seems amazing to me also that you don't have more pain. Love the boots!

  7. Still love the boots! LOL You know what you are right! I break a lot of ceramic pots too! And they sure have a lot of brightly colored pots now a days! You sure could put rocks or bricks (whatever) in it before you glue! Thanks for pointing that out!
